Becoming a Fashion Stylist

Chances are if you’re following my blog that you’re quite into fashion, you probably follow a bunch of fashion blogs and probably dress pretty well, you get texts from your friends in changing rooms asking your opinion on a piece, you’re friends love borrowing your dresses and seem to never return them…

Well I was like you once, absolutely loving everything fashion – yet doing a day job that I didn’t really like. Then I realised that there are fashion stylist courses where you can become a personal stylist and they only take 12 months to complete.

I thought that personal stylists were a dream job that no one could really get, but it turns out that there is a strong demand for this work and the industry is growing. So there is lots of work out there for qualified and talented people.

There are also a million different avenues you can take it, I chose to become a blogger and style local people needing personal styling help. Although many choose to do online personal styling or celebrity styling or styling for fashion shoots and big brands. The opportunities are endless…

If you think you could do this kind of work and would love it, then find a course provider near you. They operate in most major cities and some provide online courses.

Getting in touch with my spiritual side

So recently I’ve been on a bit of a mission to get in touch with my spiritual side… some recent events in my life have caused me to look for some meaning in life and think about the bigger picture of life rather than focusing on the day to day rat race.

So I’ve signed up to a local yoga studio, I’ve been practicing meditation every morning (almost every morning) and I’ve been getting some reiki treatment from a local Reiki Practicitioner in Melbourne.

For those that know me this is a huge change to my previous self, and some of my friends are wondering if I’ve completely lost it. Maybe I have… but maybe I’m now just realising that there is more to life than what society tells us is important; getting married, buying a house in a nice area, getting a promotion, having a baby all that stuff.

Not to say that having a family isn’t important, but sometimes we get so caught up in these life goals that we forget what makes us happy and what makes us healthy.

In order to be truly healthy, you have to be looking after your physical health, emotional health, mental health, and spiritual health.

These realisations have made me a much better person I believe and I plan on continuing to develop my spiritual side. I’ve never been religious but I do believe there is something greater than ourselves I do believe that our spiritual side needs to be taken care of to truly be happy and healthy.

Is anyone else out there having a similar realisation?

How to Choose a Wedding Venue

For many couples, picking the right wedding venue that will be easy for their guests is a big deal. Settling on a venue is an expensive affair. It sets the tinge of the wedding. A wedding venue is a meat in a wedding sandwich but many are frustrated with the reservation process. Below are a few tips that will help you choose a wedding venue that is right for you.

Location

There are a few ways to go with choosing the location, you can try and choose the most beautiful wedding destinations so that the ceremony and photos are amazing, or you can choose a venue that suits logistically to make it easy for the majority of people to make it (after all, it is important that your closest family and friends can all come). You can also make the decision based off a destination of importance for you as a couple, maybe you might take it to a town where you grew up or met.

Number of Guests

The number of guests you foresee will help you to determine how big a venue you will need. It is, therefore, critical that you come up with an estimate of your number of guests so that you can plan your budget on time.

seating-chart-690x200

Weather

Weather is a weighty factor you need to consider if you’re planning to have a garden wedding ceremony. The weather is less authentic if you’re planning an outdoor event and may turn cold or wet. To avoid embarrassment, have an alternative to either a tent or an inside space in case the skies open up. In essence, consider the season which you are planning your ceremony.

Special Requirements

Some places have strict rules and regulations. There are some locations which prohibit smoking and alcohol. If your guests drink and smoke, pick that location which doesn’t restrict the two. If dancing and a big band are censorious, limit yourself to those places that can lodge them. Think about children, disabled guests and seniors too. Identify all special factors that are relevant to your event prior the material day.

If you’re going to pick 1 element of a wedding that has the biggest impact on how ‘good’ the day is, the wedding venue would have to be right up there as the most important, so don’t stuff it up… 🙂

The usual wedding tradition of buying wedding dress involves walking into the store with your mother, trying on different dresses with the assistance of a sales person and seeing if it fits your expectation.

Another way would be by few clicks of a button on your computer and having the dress  brought over to your house where you can try it on. One good thing about this is,you would comfortably try on the dress and accessories without feeling someone is constantly watching you and making you uneasy

When buying a wedding dress online it is important upon put certain things into consideration

Your body measurement

Before ordering for a dress online male sure you have your correct body measurement. If you are unsure how to measure yourself accurately, let someone who’s able to do that for you.

Be sure about the stores policy

Have an idea about what the stores return policy is before ordering for a dress. Not to fret, most stores have a standard return policy in place.

The kind of style and texture you want

While you may not be a wedding fabric connoisseur, it is advisable you make researches and know the various textures and kinds of styles that are put they and which online store carries such

Be on the lookout for designer gown on sales

Isn’t it every brides dream to see snatch a designer dress for a little token? Yes it is,  you should be on the lookout for one and ready to act as quick as possible to get it before the next bride does.

Wedding size is different from normal clothing size.

Most wedding gown designers don’t use the actual clothing size when it comes to making their dresses. Keep this in mind when buying and be sure to learn more about the wedding sizing if you don’t know about it already.

Be careful scammers

This is one major point I can’t overemphasize. Always be careful when buying online, leave any sites that looks suspicious or asks you to pay using cheque or wired money.

There are online stores that sell  good quality designer wedding dresses for less.

Suzanne Harward offers amazing designer wedding dresses. Otherwise if you’re on a tighter budget you can find pre owned dresses and other budget friendly options at house of brides or ASOS

No matter how much effort you put into planning your wedding, mistakes and accidents are bound to happen. A survival kit is necessary for a bride to take along on her wedding day. This kit should contain tools that would fix up little glitches and bad happenings. Preparing for unforseen circumstances is one major key to pulling off a successful event. A survival kit is not only needed for brides. Event planners, groomsmen and basically anyone going for a major event needs one.

A survival kit is usually carried by the bridesmaid and is kept in a place that can be accessed easily. Thanks to modernization, companies now sell pre-packed emergent kits for the big day. But just incase you are one who enjoys packing her own things, this list would serve as a guide for you.

  • Duct tape preferably a white one. This tape can hold two worlds together.
  • Pain relievers
  • Phone chargers to make that emergency call incase your battery goes out.
  • Chalk to hide that stain from your dress
  • Straws for sipping on some liquid without smudging your lipstick
  • Baby powder to absorb moisture
  • Makeup and tweezers for touch ups
  • Toiletries; tampons and panty liners, just incase
  • Mini first aid kit
  • Sewing kit to fix all tears
  • Cash because you never know when you’ll need it or what might arise.
  • Lint rollers to keep the grooms suit in check
  • Sunscreen, this is of the importance. You still want to maintain that glow you worked so hard to get from the beginning.

  • Blotting paper. There’s nothing attractive about an oily and greasy face.
  • A small mirror for facial checks during the day.

Bridal Skincare Tips you should know

A wedding is a once in a lifetime affair, you shouldn’t leave anything to chance. Just as you are preparing for the yummy cakes, wedding dress, the venue and everything else, you should also have your skin in mind.

Every brides dream is to have a clear, smooth and radiantly glowing skin on her big day. This doesn’t just happen in a day, it happens by spending lots of time on a good prebridal skincare routine.

Start the process early

Don’t walk into a dermatologist office or spa two weeks before your day to start getting facials or fix whatever issue you have. It is always advisable to start the process at least three months earlier.

Those getting microdermabrasion’s , fillers,  Botox or any other minor surgical procedures, should consider doing this few weeks before the big day to reduce any redness or reactions you might have.

Also, you should choose a facialist carefully, you don’t want to have your face looking all red and irritated after a session. The aim is get a glow not look all red and swollen.

Put off using new skincare product

The urge to try out new skincare product during this time is always high. After all,  the aim is to look good and that new product just promised you that. No matter how irresistible it might be, don’t use new skincare products weeks before your big day.

You don’t want to wake up with a bad reaction and start scrambling for solutions in all the beauty places and dermatologist office. Continue using products you are already familiar with.

Good diet and exercise

You should consider following an exercise and healthy eating plan during this period. At least three weeks before you say “I do”, eliminate all unhealthy foods from your diet and perform three sessions of cardio a week. Health diet and exercise add a glow to the skin.

Drink lots of water and don’t stress

Aim for at least 2_ 3 liters of water per day. Water is a good detox and would keep your skin hydrated and shiny. Also try to not stress yourself too much as it would show your skin.

All Grooming should be timed

Teeth whitening, waxing, brow shaping, tanning and any other grooming needed should be done two weeks early. This would give ample time to the skin to heal from any redness, bruises or swells.

Have an exfoliating regime

Consider investing in an exfoliating facial wash you could use on alternate nights especially if your skin is acne prone. If you don’t know which to get, ask your dermatologist for a recommendation.

In case of an emergency grab a toothpaste

Well, not all emergencies just the “pimple “ emergency. Waking up a day to your wedding with a pimple sitting on your face mocking you is every brides nightmare. In cases like this, apply toothpaste to the pimple to dry it out and cover up any scarring with makeup.

Moisturizers are your friend

A good moisturizer would do you more good than harm. Incorporate this into your skincare routine and see how supple, glossy and radiant your skin would look in the long run.

Sunscreens are lifesavers

Never step out without wearing a sunscreen no matter the season. This would do your skin good and maintain a bright healthy complexion.

Test run

Just incase you are unsure of how you would look on the big day, you can always have a test run. Few days before the ceremony,  have your hair and makeup done, put on your wedding dress and see how you’ll appear on the big day.

On a final note, don’t fret and lose your mind in trying to be the perfect bride. Breathe in and enjoy every moment.
